Sod Calculator
Calculate the number of sod rolls and pallets needed to install a new lawn or repair bare patches.
Formula & Explanation
The sod calculator uses the following formula: 1. Rolls needed = ceil(Total area ÷ Coverage per roll) 2. Pallets needed = ceil(Rolls needed ÷ Rolls per pallet) Sod is sold in rolls of standard size (typically 10 square feet per roll in the US, but verify with your supplier as sizes vary). Rolls are bundled onto pallets for transport and storage.
Assumptions
- •Most sod suppliers in the US provide rolls covering 10 square feet each (approximately 2 ft x 5 ft)
- •Standard pallets hold 50 rolls, but this varies by supplier and region-always verify before ordering
- •Sod should be installed within 24 hours of delivery for best results
- •Plan to order 5-10% extra sod for seams, cuts, and replacement of any damaged pieces
- •Delivery fees often apply; ask about bulk pricing if ordering multiple pallets
Example Calculation
A 1000 square foot lawn requires 100 rolls of sod, which equals 2 full pallets.
