Roof Rise Calculator
Calculate vertical rise from roof angle and horizontal run. Essential for framing layout and structural planning.
Formula & Explanation
The rise is calculated from angle and run using the tangent function: Rise = Run × tan(Angle) Where angle is in degrees and is converted to radians for the calculation. For example, with a 26.57° angle and 12-foot run: Rise = 12 × tan(26.57°) = 12 × 0.5 = 6 feet This produces a 6:12 pitch. This calculator is the reverse of the roof angle calculator and is useful when you know the desired angle but need to calculate the vertical rise for framing layout.
Assumptions
- •Angle must be less than 90 degrees (vertical would be undefined)
- •Run and rise are measured in the same units (typically feet)
- •Calculation assumes a straight linear relationship (level building)
Example Calculation
A 26.57-degree roof angle over a 12-foot run requires 6 feet of vertical rise, creating a 6:12 pitch.
